Legendary New York club CBGB will officially close it's doors on October 15th*, 2006. Home to many a rock star over the years, this centre of darkness & dinge has lost it's battle with exorbitant rent rises over the last year or so. The gentrification of much of New York continues at an alarmingly sad rate. If you've ever been lucky enough to enter and be entertained, you'll know just what a magic place for all sorts of rock n' roll was to be had in there. The amazing influence this place had on a global scale (both musically and in the sub-culture) is going to be sadly missed. Iggy Pop, Television, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Ramones, New York Dolls just to name a few all were regulars on that famous stage. We've stood were Iggy 'shot up' (the stairwell leading to the toilets), dropped a load on the thrown in full view of other punters and danced like we were doing Joey Ramone proud to the best and worst that music could offer up. Long will you live in our memory, CBGB's.
*The amazing female songstress, who was there during the early days...Patti Smith will play the last concert (from what i've heard) in just under a fortnight's time. *
Rooooooccccccccck.
