Tropfest is one of the worlds largest short film festivals. Now in it's second decade, thousands of people turn out in major capital cities around Australia to watch the 16 finalists. All films must be 7 mins or less in length and must include a reference to the yearly theme (2006's theme is 'Bubble'). Films come in all shapes and sizes, with animations sitting alongside lush coastal themes. Hosting the show is done in Sydney and it must be noted that unlike the fine weather in Melbourne, Sydney put on a show of mass precipitation. Unfortunately, the final three films weren't shown in the Harbour city. Much to the laughter of 10,000+ Melbournians. Results of the winners will be announced in a press conference later this week. Stay Tuned.

.....it was only but 6 weeks ago that we were enjoying a rather mild winter in New York City. Oh how it's all gone 'pear-shaped' in the big...Apple. One of the most fierce snow storms in history has blanketed the city in the fluffy white stuff. Seems like a good time to wonder down to the Grassroots Tavern (if you can find it!!!) for a quiet pint of Brooklyn Lager.

As most music fans are aware the
Big Day Out (music festival) has just swept through town for another triumphant summer. A joy to those that don't go to the festival is the 'side-shows' from band both international and local. A great double bill was presented last Wednesday, 1st Feb. Local 2 piece outfit,
The Mess Hall opened up (sorry, but I missed the Subways) with their mix of pumpin', thumpin' rock. It's been a while since i've seen them, but they still hold strong on stage and (like other two piece bands
The Black Keys &
White Stripes) certainly have no trouble filling a venue with sound. Excellent stuff. The
Kings Of Leon ,from Nashville have produced two fine albums and there mix of tight Southern Garage and wonderful musicianship translated perfectly onto stage. They were tight, they were ROOOOOCCCCKKKK and they certainly did ROLL!!!
